Due Date for Income Tax Return Filers from Gujarat Extended to 14 October

1 October 2013

Due date of filing income tax returns for assessees from the state of Gujarat who were supposed to file them by 30 September 2013 has been extended to 14 October 2013 by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). This is in consideration of recent floods in the state.

Persons whose accounts need to be audited are liable to file their tax returns by 30 September, each year. According to tax rules, self-employed professionals, whose gross receipts exceeded Rs 25 lakhs, and individuals carrying on business, with turnover more than Rs 1 crore, need to get their books of accounts audited.

Recent floods in the state of Gujarat saw evacuation of tens of thousands to safer places from flooded areas.

In another notification last week, CBDT had relaxed the requirement of furnishing tax audit report electronically. Those who are facing difficulties uploading audit report online can do so manually. The date for furnishing tax audit report has been extended to 31 October 2013 from 30 September 2013.
